(1) Load characteristics

Galvanized power transmission steel pipe tower members have low wind pressure, high cross-sectional bending stiffness, simple structure, and clear force transmission, which can fully utilize the load-bearing performance of materials. On the one hand, it can reduce the weight of the tower and reduce the foundation force; On the other hand, it is beneficial to enhance the ability to resist natural disasters under extreme conditions. Under the condition of meeting the requirements for strength and stability calculation, using steel pipe towers with relatively small wind pressure shape coefficients can significantly reduce the wind load on the tower body.

(2) Cross-sectional characteristics

For the bending and compression components of transmission towers, using steel pipes with smaller cross-sectional areas and larger turning radii can fully balance the mechanical properties of the materials, meet the structural stiffness and stability requirements. Especially for large load iron towers with larger geometric dimensions and longer members, the advantage of good stability performance of steel pipe tower members is obvious.

(3) Construct connections

In terms of structural connection, the main materials of the galvanized power transmission steel pipe tower are connected by flanges or intersecting connections, the diagonal materials are connected by plug-in plates or intersecting connections, the main materials of the angle steel tower are connected by internal and external connections, and other members are mainly connected by connecting plates and bolts. The flange and plug plate connection structure of steel pipe towers is relatively simple. Although it increases the welding workload, it reduces the adverse effects of eccentricity of angle steel components on the load-bearing performance of the structure. At the same time, it enhances the stiffness and density of the connection nodes, which helps to improve the overall stiffness and stability of the structucre and its ability to resist wind induced dynamic loads.
